The forest is located in the lush green south-western Ethiopian regional state of Gambella at a small town called Itang. An entire area of 2000 hectors is privately owned in which 50 hectors of land is being used for commercial planting of staple food crops. The 1,950 hectors of land available for carbon trading is hence guaranteed that carbon in the forest will remain protected for a full term of contract period under such a program.
